Canada posts surprise trade surplus in September

(Reuters) - Canada posted an unexpected trade surplus of C$1.25 billion ($1.22 billion) in September from a revised C$487 million deficit in August, the first surplus in eight months, Statistics Canada said on Thursday. September’s surprising good news was largely driven by higher prices for energy products, and also reflects a 5.0 percent jump in exports to the United States.
