CANADA STOCKS-TSX falls at open despite RIM surge

TORONTO, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index
opened lower on Friday as heavyweight banking, energy and mining
stocks all fell, offseting a surge in shares of Research In
Motion Ltd after the BlackBerry maker reported
better-than-expected quarterly results.
    The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index
 was down 58.92 points, or 0.48 percent, at 12,279.93
shortly after the open.
