CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens lower as materials, U.S. fiscal talks weigh

TORONTO, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened
lower on Monday as a decline in material and financial stocks
more than offset a modest rise in the energy sector, with
uncertainty over U.S. budget talks persisting into the last
stretch of the year.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index
was down 10.76 points, or 0.09 percent, at 12,285.96
shortly after the open.
