CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens higher; energy, financials lead

TORONTO, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened
higher on Thursday, with strength in energy and financials
offsetting a fall in gold stocks, lifted in part by TransCanada
Corp after the company reported progress with a
pipeline.
    The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index
 was up 10.66 points, or 0.08 percent, at 12,619.48
shortly after the open.
