TORONTO, May 9 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index was little changed on Friday morning, as profit-taking undermined gains in the energy sector.
The S&P/TSX composí e index .GSPTSE was up 16.94 points, or 0.12 percent, at 14,624.93 after bouncing around both sides of the break-even mark after the open. It was in sight of the record high of 14,646.82.
On the downside, the materials sector led the way, giving up 1.1 percent, while the gold producers subindex slid 1.6 percent.
The heavyweight energy sector edged up 0.2 percent as crude oil prices scaled new heights.
