Toronto stocks open higher, lifted by financials
TORONTO Dec 24 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index opened higher on Monday, as the financial and materials sectors edged higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 41.75 points, or 0.3 percent, at 13,673.84
Four of the TSX index's 10 main groups were higher.
Financial shares were up 0.6 percent after an investor group said on the weekend that it had agreed in principle to restructure about C$33 billion ($33.3 billion) of non-bank asset-backed commercial paper.
The materials sector, home to resource shares, was up 0.4 percent.
Activity was expected to be light as the market will close at 1 p.m. (1800 GMT) for the Christmas holidays.
