TORONTO, July 29 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index fell sharply lower shortly after the open on Friday after Canadian and U.S. economic data came in weaker than expected and debt jitters on both sides of the Atlantic sent equity investors to the exits.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE fell 138.95 points, or 1.06 percent, to 12,908.83, the lowest level in a month. (Reporting by Trish Nixon; editing by Peter Galloway)
