TORONTO Feb 24 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index dipped into negative territory on Friday morning as a retreat in bullion prices hit gold-mining issues and soft U.S. housing data offset oil and gas gains.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was down 1.26 points at 12,731.04 after rising at the open.
