TORONTO, April 2 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index turned positive shortly after the open on Monday as weak financials were offset by firm materials and energy shares after signs of economic contraction in Europe and strong manufacturing data out of China.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was up 6.00 points to 12,398.18 after a slightly negative start.
