TORONTO Aug 22 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index ended slightly higher on Wednesday, helped by signals that the U.S. Federal Reserve could soon ease monetary policy and boosted by resurgent gold miners.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index unofficially closed up 2.07 points, or 0.02 percent, at 12,118.99.
