Toronto stocks rally from big loss to close higher

TORONTO, Jan 23 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index bounced higher late in the afternoon on Wednesday, after dropping more than 400 points earlier in the day, as a turnaround in the banking sector pulled the index up amid talk of capital infusions for bond insurers.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed up 39.23 points, or 0.31 percent, at 12,680.11. (Reporting by Leah Schnurr; Editing by Peter Galloway)
