TORONTO, Jan 31 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index dropped more than 100 points early on Thursday, hit by lower commodities, a big jump in U.S. jobless claims, and concern over more losses at global financial institutions.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE tumbled 105.86 points, or 0.8 percent, to 12,892.35 immediately after trading began.
