TORONTO, April 24 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index pared earlier losses but still ended sharply lower on Thursday as gains in banking and tech stocks were undercut by resources, which were hurt by tumbling commodity prices.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed down 103.76 points, or 0.74 percent, at 13,966.04. (Reporting by Leah Schnurr; Editing by Peter Galloway)
