Toronto stocks taken lower as profit-taking bites

TORONTO, May 23 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index trimmed earlier losses but ended lower on Friday, knocked down as investors locked in profits following a recent surge to record highs.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed down 53.78 points, or 0.36 percent, at 14,738.58 (Reporting by Leah Schnurr; Editing by Peter Galloway)
