Toronto stocks rise 1 pct at open on TransAlta bid
TORONTO, July 21 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock market index jumped 1 percent at the open on Monday as a takeover bid for TransAlta Corp (TA.TO: Quote) and stronger-than-expected results from Bank of America (BAC.N: Quote) soothed worries over the global credit crunch.
Just after the open, the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 129.75 points, or 1 percent, at 13,645.71. ($1=$1.00 Canadian) (Reporting by Scott Anderson; Editing by Bernadette Baum)
