TORONTO, Sept 2 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index fell 2.9 percent on Tuesday afternoon, dragged lower by retreating resource issues as oil prices dropped after Hurricane Gustav appeared to have spared major U.S. oil facilities in the Gulf of Mexico.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 400.68 points, or 2.9 percent, at 13,370.57. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; editing by Rob Wilson)
