Toronto stocks open lower as resources offset
TORONTO, Sept 23 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index opened lower on Tuesday, as energy and materials stocks offset and before key congressional testimony on a proposed $700 billion U.S. financial bailout plan.
Shortly after the open, the S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 19.51 points, or 0.15 percent, at 12,618.56. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Scott Anderson)
