Toronto stocks retreat on U.S. bailout uncertainty

TORONTO, Sept 24 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index retreated briefly into negative territory on Wednesday, as resource shares eased back from earlier gains and uncertainty over the U.S. bailout weighed.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 3.27 points at 12,529.36 shortly after midday. (Reporting by Leah Schnurr; editing by Rob Wilson)
