Toronto stock index drops 4.3 pct on commodities

TORONTO, Oct 2 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index fell more than 500 points on Thursday morning as Potash Corp of Saskatchewan (POT.TO) and Agrium Inc (AGU.TO) tumbled after Merrill Lynch chopped its ratings on fertilizer stocks, while oil and gold prices also sank.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 503.16 points, or 4.3 percent, at 11,211.35. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Peter Galloway)
