Toronto stock index drops 6 pct as fertilizers dive

TORONTO, Oct 2 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index sank more than 700 points on Thursday afternoon as fertilizer companies Potash Corp (POT.TO) and Agrium (AGU.TO) plunged after a ratings downgrade, while oil and gold prices also tumbled.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 701.54 points, or 5.99 percent, 11,012.97. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Peter Galloway)
