Toronto stock index drops 6 pct as fertilizers dive

TORONTO Oct 2 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index sank more than 700 points on Thursday afternoon as fertilizer companies Potash Corp (POT.TO: Quote) and Agrium (AGU.TO: Quote) plunged after a ratings downgrade, while oil and gold prices also tumbled.
