Toronto stock index sinks 5.5 pct as oil drops
TORONTO Oct 10 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index opened more than 500 points lower on Friday as energy stocks tumbled as oil slid to $80 a barrel on fears demand will shrink if the world economy goes into recession.
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 528.34 points, or 5.5 percent, at 9,071.84. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Peter Galloway)
