Toronto stock index extends gains, up 1.1 percent

TORONTO, Oct 17 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index rose more than 1 percent on Friday morning, led by energy issues as the price of oil came off 16-month lows.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE gained 105.53 points to 9,375.50, rising more than 1 percent after an early steep drop. ($1=$1.19 Canadian) (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng)
