Toronto stock index rises 3.4 pct on oil price

TORONTO, Oct 17 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index was up more than 3 percent at midday on Friday, after sliding at the open, led higher by energy issues as the price of oil recovered from 16-month lows.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE jumped 310.15 points, or 3.35 percent, to 9,580.12. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Peter Galloway)
