CANADA STOCKS-Toronto tumbles as commodities slide

TORONTO, Oct 22 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index closed sharply lower on Wednesday as energy and materials issues sank along with underlying commodity prices on concerns a global economic slowdown will cut demand.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed down 484.72 points, or 4.95 percent, at 9,311.08. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; editing by Rob Wilson)
