TORONTO, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Toronto Stock Exchange's main index fell at the close on Friday as materials issues sank on weakness in gold and base metal prices, which were pressured by a stronger U.S. dollar and demand concerns.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed down 76.09 points, or 0.77 percent, at 9,780.12. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; editing by Rob Wilson)
