CANADA STOCKS-TSX surges on commodities, stimulus optimism

TORONTO, Dec 8 (Reuters) - The Toronto Stock Exchange's main index opened sharply higher on Monday as oil and metals prices rose and as investors hoped global stimulus measures would avert a deeper slide in the economy.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 316.21 points, or 3.9 percent, at 8,433.24. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; editing by Peter Galloway)
