TORONTO, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index rose slightly on Monday, helped higher by strength in oil and gas issues, but weakness in the influential materials group on sliding gold prices kept the gains in check.
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed up 33.02 points, or 0.37 percent, at 9,041.04. Earlier, the index had rallied 1.6 percent. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Jeffrey Hodgson)
