CANADA STOCKS-TSX higher as materials issues support

TORONTO Feb 12 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index rose on Thursday, struggling up from a 1.7 percent drop earlier in the day, boosted by strength in the resource-laden materials sector.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed up 47.01 points, or 0.54 percent, at 8,784.90 (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; editing by Rob Wilson)
