TORONTO, March 11 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index rose sharply in early trade on Wednesday, helped higher by strength in financial shares on hope of stabilization in the U.S. banking sector.
At 9:46 a.m. (1346 GMT), the S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 80.61 points, or 1.02 percent, at 7,961.02. It had tipped briefly into negative territory just after the open on weakness in energy shares. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Peter Galloway)
