CANADA STOCKS-TSX rallies to highest close in 3 weeks

TORONTO, March 12 (Reuters) - Toronto’s key stock index surged to its highest close in over three weeks on Thursday as Canadian bank shares were given a lift after another U.S. bank said it started the year profitable.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed up 302.24 points, or 3.77 percent, at 8,313.26, which marked its highest closing level since Feb. 17. (Reporting by Frank Pingue; Editing by Jeffrey Hodgson)
