CANADA STOCKS-Banks lift TSX to highest close in a month

TORONTO, March 16 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index ended at its highest closing level in more than a month on Monday as bank shares got a boost after Britain's Barclays Bank (BARC.L: Quote) said it had had a strong start to the year.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed up 84.84 points, or 1.02 percent, at 8,388.23. (Reporting by Frank Pingue; Editing by Peter Galloway)
