TORONTO, March 24 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index finished lower on Tuesday as a slide in oil prices shook out some of the big gains it recorded in the previous session, when it ended at a six-week high.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed down 138.78 points, or 1.55 percent, at 8,819.73. (Reporting by Frank Pingue; editing by Peter Galloway)
