CANADA STOCKS-Rising gold lifts Toronto index

TORONTO, April 1 (Reuters) - Toronto’s main stock index turned positive near the open on Wednesday, after falling 1 percent at the outset as rising gold prices helped offset weak oil prices and a grim U.S. private-sector jobs reading.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 1.16 point at 8,721.55. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Theodore d‘Afflisio)
