CANADA STOCKS-TSX ekes out gain as financials overcome weak oil

TORONTO, May 5 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index ended slightly higher on Tuesday, extending a nearly 4 percent rise in the previous session, as financial sector firmness overcame weaker energy issues, which fell as oil prices sagged.

The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed up 18.88 points, or 0.19 percent, at 9,889.25. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; Editing by Jeffrey Hodgson)
