CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens lower as commodity prices weigh
TORONTO, July 8 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index opened lower on Wednesday as a drop in commodity prices weighed on the resource-heavy index.
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE fell 43.47 points, or 0.44 percent, to 9,800.88 at the open. Five of the TSX's 10 sectors were lower, led by a 1 percent drop in its materials group.
The index's drop was cushioned by an International Monetary Fund report that said the global economy was starting to pull out of recession. [ID:nWEQ001177] (Reporting by Frank Pingue, editing by Peter Galloway)
