TORONTO, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index rose at the open on Thursday as resource-based stocks supported tentative and modest gains.
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE edged up 17.41 points, or 0.16 percent, to 10,704.24.
The latest weekly U.S. jobless claims figures suggested a stalled job market and fanned fears that the recovery would be anemic, which weighed on market sentiment. (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng; editing by Peter Galloway)
