TORONTO, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index rose at the open on Thursday as growing signs of a global economic recovery helped power heavyweight financial shares such as Royal Bank of Canada (RY.TO).
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE rose 69.58 points, or 0.61 percent, to 11,419.46 at the open. The index's financials group, home to banks and insurers, was up 0.85 percent. (Reporting by Frank Pingue; editing by Peter Galloway)
