CANADA STOCKS-Toronto index rises on commodity strength
TORONTO Jan 4 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock market index opened higher on Monday as the price of oil soared above $81 a barrel, pushing up shares of Suncor Energy (SU.TO: Quote), while strength in gold boosted miners such as Barrick Gold (ABX.TO: Quote).
The S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 93.69 points, or 0.8 percent, at 11,839.80 at the open. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; editing by Peter Galloway)
