CANADA STOCKS-TSX ends higher on earnings, insurers

TORONTO, July 29 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index climbed on Thursday as materials shares were boosted by robust earnings from Barrick Gold (ABX.TO: Quote) and Potash Corp (POT.TO: Quote), while insurers rose on optimism about pending new rules on capital levels.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially closed up 27.14 points, or 0.23 percent, at 11,723.77. (Reporting by Jennifer Kwan; editing by Peter Galloway)
