CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens higher on materials, U.S. data
TORONTO Aug 4 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index opened higher on Wednesday as materials were supported by a firm gold price, while stronger than expected U.S. economic data helped ease concerns about the global recovery.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE rose 2.19 points, or 0.02 percent, to 11,784.79 at the open, then extended gains quickly. (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng; Editing by Theodore d'Afflisio)
