TORONTO, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index closed lower on Wednesday after three days of gains as key commodity prices slipped and weak North American data splashed cold water on recent optimism about economic recovery.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE unofficially ended down 48.14 points, or 0.39 percent, at 12,144.84. (Reporting by Claire Sibonney; editing by Peter Galloway)
