TORONTO, May 16 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index edged higher on Monday in early dealings as strength in the materials group offset broad weakness and soft risk sentiment.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE edged up 6.34 points to 13,383.50, after initially falling at the open. A 0.7 percent advance in materials group outweighed weakness in seven of the index's 10 sectors. (Reporting by Ka Yan Ng; editing by Janet Guttsman)
