CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens lower on softer commodities

TORONTO, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Toronto’s main stock index opened lower on Monday as a stronger U.S. dollar pushed commodity prices down, with the U.S. public holiday expected to keep trading volumes light.

The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE opened down 7.17 points, or 0.05 percent, at 13,456.89, before extending losses. (Reporting by Claire Sibonney; editing by Jeffrey Hodgson)
