CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens higher on resources, RIM dives

TORONTO, June 17 (Reuters) - Toronto’s main stock market index opened higher on Friday as stronger resource stocks offset a steep decline in Research In Motion RIM.TO shares after a disappointing earnings report on Thursday.

The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 1.04 points at 12,854.17 at open, then extended gains. Nine of the index’s 10 main groups were higher. (Reporting by Trish Nixon; editing by Peter Galloway)
