CANADA STOCKS-TSX slump more than 1 pct after the open

TORONTO, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened
sharply lower with energy and mining stocks leading the market
down more than 1 percent after a downgrade of five Spanish
regions and soft corporate earnings in the United States
rekindled worries about the global economy.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index
tumbled 188.54 points, or 1.28 percent to 12,245.00
after the open.
