CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens higher; Chinese data lifts metals, energy

TORONTO, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened
higher on Thursday, led by material and energy stocks, as strong
economic data from China boosted commodity and oil prices.
    The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index
 was up 56.58 points, or 0.45 percent, at 12,578.82
shortly after the open.
