The Dow Jones industrial average rose 20 points, or 0.4 percent, to 14,636. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index edged down 0.15 point, or 0.01 percent, at 1,562.92. The Nasdaq Composite Index added 0.48 points, or 0.01 percent, to 3,222.73.
** HERBALIFE LTD, $37.96, down 1 pct (1141ET)
KPMG resigned as the auditor of Herbalife after one of its senior partners engaged in insider trading in Herbalife stock, the nutritional products company said on Tuesday.
Herbalife said in a statement that KPMG's resignation had nothing to do with its accounting practices or the integrity of its management - issues called into question by the high-stakes drama between hedge fund titans Bill Ackman and Carl Icahn over the company.
