Dow Jones industrial e-mini average futures were up 0.63 percent at 17,840, S&P 500 e-mini futures were up 0.66 percent at 2,063.25 and Nasdaq 100 e-mini futures were up 0.56 percent at 4,333.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International said it increased its offer for Salix to $10.96 billion in cash, topping Endo International's bid of $10.93 billion in cash-and-stock for the bowel drug maker.
