Dow Jones industrial average futures were down 0.13 percent at 17,580, S&P 500 futures were down 0.07 percent at 2,047 and Nasdaq 100 futures were down 0.05 percent at 4,308.75.

The company said its experimental eye drug failed the main goal in a mid-stage study as a combination therapy.

Dow Chemical said it would separate a large part of its chlorine business and merge it with Olin in a deal that will give Dow control of Olin.

** OREXIGEN THERAPEUTICS INC, Thursday close $7.25, +10.62 pct premarket
