The move strengthened the dollar, which weighed on oil, copper and gold prices.
Dow Jones industrial average futures were down 0.80 percent at 17,412, S&P 500 futures were down 0.73 percent at 2,084.5 and Nasdaq 100 futures were down 0.45 percent at 4,545.5.
